Faith, Family & the Art of Reclaimed Wood
Your home is your own. It is where your family makes its memories. It’s where history is created. We believe using reclaimed lumber adds a very special component and uniquely artistic look to today’s kitchens. Reclaimed wood and the history it can hold has special meaning for our company and founder, Tim Howard. Tim grew up crafting with wood alongside his Dad. His Dad had a special love for working with reclaimed wood. he loved it for all its beauty and the fact that it was being reclaimed and reused. Tim was recently quoted as saying, “Reclaimed wood is symbolic in my faith, it reminds me that I was..."
"...just a piece of wood with no purpose until Jesus reclaimed me. He took something ordinary and has done something extraordinary with my life. He takes people with defects and makes beautiful things…”
We’d like to showcase one piece (image of hope chest, upper right) and share the story behind it. This hope chest was built from reclaimed wood out of North Carolina. Tim and his son, Justin crafted this piece one special Saturday together. The chest was to be a wedding gift to Tim’s daughter-in-law and Justin’s wife, Joani.
Reclaimed wood is used everywhere from counters, to flooring, to butcher block island tops, to crown molding and accent pieces around a kitchen. We love when a client comes to us with an inspirational photo of a hood or an island that they want us to duplicate using reclaimed pieces. HGI can used reclaimed lumber you provide or from one of our amazing vendors throughout the Carolinas.
Some of the benefits of using reclaimed wood are that it is environmentally friendly! Repurposing these woods helps curb deforestation and keeps the wood out of our landfills. We have found that reclaimed wood is also high in strength. It also adds appeal to your home and project. Its beauty is unmatched!
