This Farmhouse Kitchen Renovation is our featured kitchen of the month.
Kitchens are often the central hub of any home. They are typically the gathering place of families at the end of every day and where families entertain. This is especially true for farmhouse kitchens. It's the style that seems to define the words, "the kitchen is the heart of the home.” They are typically defined by large sinks and lots of counter space. They typically lean towards natural materials, such as reclaimed wood.
Our featured kitchen of the month was one such kitchen renovation. The family had unearthed some wormy chestnut wood from a family owned barn that had been stored for many generations. It was very important that the lumber from the family barn be worked into the kitchen. We took the wood to our workshop, milled them and prepared them to be added as accent pieces to this kitchen.
As you can see, the entire kitchen renovation was custom designed, and it was important to the owners that the reclaimed wood was displayed in such a way that they became focal points.
The island countertop was created using the homeowner's wormy chestnut wood pieced together. The island itself was Maple painted grey and we finished it off with decorative bun feet.
You will see the classic farmhouse style sink, along with rich textured granite counter tops. We added custom panels to both the dishwasher and the refrigerator to match the cabinetry.
The range hood was also custom designed, with the chestnut pieces placed to accent it. We also created crown molding with the reclaimed pieces, drawing the eye upward and to tie in the island and other dramatic effects. You can see a very useful pot filler faucet behind the stove, a neat added feature!
The seating nook area was also custom designed, using the very popular “banquette seating” design. The built-in bench seating for a dining area is not only a practical solution and efficient use of space, it’s also an attractive feature that gives your kitchen a custom, high-end look! The bench seating hosts additional storage below. We installed beadboard along the back of the bench to complete the space. This table was also a family heirloom piece, and we were delighted to incorporate it in such a beautiful way!
This kitchen renovation remains one of our favorite projects, and we are so thankful to have been a part of showcasing a piece of the family history with classic farmhouse flair!
